M.I.P is the leading supplier of sustainable storage systems made from composite materials (glass-reinforced plastic, GRP). We offer comprehensive solutions for the storage of complex liquids and moisture-sensitive solids.

The advantages of composite

Why use composite as a building material for storage systems? Composite has a number of properties that offer clear advantages over traditional materials such as concrete, aluminium, steel and stainless steel.

Corrosion-resistant

Composite does not rust or corrode like steel and other metals. It is impervious to water, vapours and gases and is resistant to most chemicals. Where necessary, various types of liners are available, ensuring that the composite tank is resistant to the full range of aggressive chemicals.

Lightweight

Composite is around 60–75% lighter than steel, but it is many times stronger. The glass-resin ratio produces a lightweight material that has extremely high stiffness and tensile strength and can withstand high dead loads. The lighter weight also significantly reduces transport and installation costs. We manufacture the tank or silo entirely in our factory, which means installation time can be kept to a minimum.

Virtually no maintenance

As composite does not rust, tanks or silos made of composite require almost no maintenance, apart from conventional cleaning. Thanks to the UV-resistant coating, the tanks and silos do not require periodic repainting and are highly resistant to the elements.

Impact-resistant

Unlike steel, composite material returns to its original shape after impact, thanks to its advanced elastic properties. Tests have shown that composite material can withstand a larger, blunt impact without permanent deformation.

No high installation costs

Composite is lightweight, so a standard lorry-mounted crane is usually sufficient for unloading and installation. This can lead to significant savings on transport and installation costs. Furthermore, composite does not require specialised cutting or welding equipment and can usually be installed using simple hand tools. Installation time is short, as everything is pre-installed at the factory.

Not affected by condensation

Thanks to their high thermal insulation properties, composite silos are less prone to condensation forming on their inner or outer walls. This ensures that foodstuffs and feed do not rot, and that building materials such as cement do not harden and clump together inside the silo. This ensures product quality and guarantees a perfect product outflow. Where moisture and condensation affect the product, we have additional solutions to prevent moisture build-up.

Excellent temperature performance

Composite material can withstand continuous temperatures of 60–100 °C whilst maintaining the full structural integrity of the tank or silo.

Free design

Composite storage systems, chimneys and pipes are produced using moulds and can therefore be manufactured to any shape or design. Furthermore, composite can be hand-moulded into any shape and can also be modified throughout its service life. New applications for composite are being developed every day!
